With a goal of bringing good theatre to Northern Rhode Island and making the theatre experience more accessible to more actors Michael Thurber started the Theatre Company of Rhode Island in 1984.  TCRI was founded as an educational theatre and with each performance the cast, crew and audience should learn something about what live theatre is all about.

Michael Thurber - Artistic Director

Michael is a native of Rhode Island and graduated from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma with a double major in Theatre and English and a minor in Music.

Theatre is the driving force in his life “I love the theatre and I want everyone to love it.  I want the audience to see every genre of theatre that is available.  If you give the audience a performance they haven’t seen before or something they won’t see somewhere else....that is the reward”.

Michael is listed in Who’s Who in America, he has worked and toured with Theater Tulsa and was a member of their Board of Directors.
